Your books, connected to your AI assistant

MCP is an open standard that lets an AI assistant talk to an outside system. Connect Staks to Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP client and your assistant can read your live business data — and, if you allow it, create documents.

01

What MCP actually is

The Model Context Protocol is a standard way for AI assistants to connect to external tools and data. Staks runs an MCP server for your account. Once you connect it, your assistant can query your business directly instead of you copying numbers into a chat window.

02

Ask your assistant about your business

With read access connected, questions about your company get answered from your records — inside the assistant you already use for everything else.

  • Invoices, quotes, expenses, and vendors
  • Companies, contacts, and deals in your funnel
  • Products and services
  • Reports, financial figures, and taxes
03

You choose exactly what it can touch

Access is granted per scope, and you pick them when you create the connection. Read scopes and write scopes are separate, so an assistant can be given the ability to answer questions without any ability to change your data.

  • Read scopes per data type — grant only what you need
  • Sensitive and financial data are their own scopes
  • Write scopes are opt-in: invoices, quotes, credit notes, expenses, deals, vendors
  • Revoke a connection at any time
04

Let it create documents, if you want it to

Add write scopes and your assistant can draft an invoice or log an expense from the conversation you are already having — the same executors the Staks Agent uses, running under permissions you set.

05

Set it up once

Create a connection in Staks, choose your scopes, and add the connector in your assistant. It authenticates against your account and your organisation only — MCP access is scoped to your data, never anyone else’s.

06

Available on Scale

The MCP connector and API access are included in the Scale plan at $99 per month, alongside payroll and unlimited business entities. If you are on Starter or Growth, the in-app Staks Agent gives you the same underlying actions without the external connection.

Questions

Which AI assistants can connect?
Any client that supports the Model Context Protocol. Claude and ChatGPT are the common ones today, and the list grows as more assistants adopt the standard.
Can my assistant change my books without permission?
Only if you grant write scopes when you set up the connection. With read scopes alone it can answer questions and nothing more. Write access covers invoices, quotes, credit notes, expenses, deals, and vendors, and you choose which of those to allow.
Is my data sent anywhere it should not be?
The connector serves your organisation’s data to the assistant you connect, under the scopes you granted. It is not shared with other Staks customers, and revoking the connection cuts off access immediately.
Do I need MCP if I already use the Staks Agent?
No — they overlap deliberately. The Agent lives inside Staks and is on every plan. MCP is for people who would rather work from their own assistant and pull business data into the conversations they are already having.
